With the introduction of highly refined process oils NYFLEX® 201B and NYFLEX® 2005 for use in sealant formulations, Nynas is offering the market a wider range of cost-efficient and compatible silicone fluid replacements.
New products NYFLEX® 201B and NYFLEX® 2005 join process oils NYFLEX® 2120B and NYFLEX® 3011, to further complement the companies’ silicone fluid replacement portfolio.
Naphthenic process oils manufactured by Nynas act as a viscosity modifier in sealant formulations, reducing cost for producers as a partial replacement of silicone fluids.
In addition, NYFLEX® oils offer a wide variety of technical benefits.
"NYFLEX® 201B is a medium viscosity oil with low volatility. NYFLEX® 2005 is slightly lower in viscosity, and both provide superior colour stability and a low VOC level,’’ said Ghislain de Quatrebarbes, Market Manager Chemical Industry.
Nynas utilises hydrotreatment technology to refine its naphthenic oil to ensure that the product is odourless, colourless and provides a unique UV stability.
"The solvency of naphthenic oils is also a huge benefit,’’ added Ghislain de Quatrebarbes.
"This is the property that gives NYFLEX® process oils perfect compatibility with the polymers used in silicone sealants, such as polymethyl siloxane.’’
With the solvent power of Nynas naphthenic oils aiding their excellent silicone compatibility, a high proportion of NYFLEX® oil components can be added to silicone sealant formulations.
"Testing shows that even with a 25% loading of Nynas naphthenic oil into the formulation, no bleeding will occur,’’ added Ghislain de Quatrebarbes.
NYFLEX® process oils are available globally in a range of viscosities, providing formulators with security of supply and the flexibility to design the exact silicone fluid to meet their purposes.
