Speciality chemicals group LANXESS will present its comprehensive and innovative inorganic pigments and biocides product portfolios for the paints and coatings industry at ChinaCoat 2015, which will be held at Shanghai New International Expo Center during November 18-20.
LANXESS is showing its full range of inorganic pigment products marketed under the brand names Bayferrox® and Colortherm® as well as the Preventol® biocides range for coatings. One show highlight will be the presentation of the New Red pigments with particularly high chromaticity, which will be produced in Ningbo, China, starting in early 2016. Visitors to the LANXESS stand will be able to see a 1:250 scale model of the new production facility.
At the Ningbo plant, LANXESS will for the first time employ a newly developed production process for red iron oxide pigments in which improved water treatment and waste gas purification contribute to a high level of environmental compatibility. Optimizations in the production process are also designed to significantly reduce the quantities of nitrogen oxides generated. Emissions of the greenhouse gas N2O (nitrous oxide) will almost completely be converted by an efficient post treatment into nitrogen, water and oxygen – all naturally occurring substances.
The innovative and sustainable Ningbo process produces brighter and more yellowish red pigments with significantly higher L*a*b* colour space values on the red axis (a*) as well as on the yellow axis (b*). No other iron oxide production process provides the option of such a flexible and precise production of colour shades.
The Inorganic Pigments business unit (IPG) at LANXESS will employ this unique and patented Ningbo production process at its new iron oxide production facility in China. "The trend toward urbanization is driving the demand for environmentally friendly, sustainably-produced iron oxide pigments. With our new facility in China, we are expanding both our global production network and our product portfolio," said Rafael Suchan, Vice President for the Inorganic Pigments business unit in Asia Pacific. "We are proud that our New Red shades can go into full production for the global market in Ningbo starting from early of 2016.”
Detailed information on the New Red pigments will be provided in the presentation "The reddest iron oxide pigments ever” held by Stephen Spiegelhauer, Head of the Global Competence Center Paints & Coatings at IPG, on November 18, 2015, at ChinaCoat 2015.
Another show highlight will be LANXESS’ colour intensive Bayferrox® yellow inorganic pigments for coatings applications, which include Bayferrox® 4905 LO, Bayferrox® 4910 LO and Bayferrox® 4920 LO.
The Bayferrox® Yellow LO (low oil absorption) series is a new product line which requires a lower quantity of oil (resin binder) to wet the pigments properly. This in turn leads to a lower viscosity in the final coatings formulation. Thanks to a special production process, the new Bayferrox® LO grades exhibit more newtonian flow behavior, especially at higher shear rates. Besides, Bayferrox® LO series features easy dissolver dispersibility, which is of key importance in the reduction of energy costs and to achieve homogeneous coating products.
The key benefits of LANXESS yellow iron oxide pigments also include their relatively clean colour shade, good dispersibility and easy incorporation into almost any paint and coating formulation.
In conjunction with the ChinaCoat, LANXESS Inorganic Pigments business unit will hold its 2nd Pigments Symposium on November 19 in Shanghai under the theme of "The global pigments industry in transition – turning challenges into sustainable value creation”.
The conference gives a first-class opportunity to learn more about global trends and developments in the pigments industry. International experts will discuss the challenges and solutions of sustainable business development against the backdrop of the continued implementation of progressive environmental regulations in China and advancing consolidation within the global pigments industry.
Furthermore, at the ChinaCoat 2015 LANXESS is showing its Preventol® biocides range for coatings. Accompanied with outstanding technical service, the broad product lines in industrial preservatives, dryfilm fungicide and algaecide fulfill the key demands placed on such products: low toxicity, non-VOC, non FA, environmental friendly, cost-effectiveness and compatibility with other components of the coating. These products not only preserve the good appearance of facades or patios, for example but also safeguard the value of these objects in the long term.
"LANXESS, as the largest provider of biocides in China and with our proven Preventol® line of products, is well positioned to fulfill the growing demands of the large biocides market in the country,” said Vinod Agnihotri, Head of Business Unit Material Protection Products, APAC Region.
"With our first-class technical services and high quality products, we are committed to grow with China’s coating and paints industry,” added Agnihotri.
