Manchester based HMG Paints Ltd has won the prestigious Manchester Evening News (M.E.N), Business of the Year Award in the £10M-£25M turnover category at this years’ M.E.N Business Awards ceremony.
With an attendance of more than 350 guests at the awards ceremony, held at the Principal Hotel, the evening was filled with talented and innovative businesses from across Manchester, from growing SMEs to large firms turning over in excess of £100M.
This year’s awards saw a record turnout of entries and the rigorous judging commenced in May 2019.
HMG Paints was then shortlisted amongst two other neighbouring Manchester-based firms, Godel Technologies and Utilities Design and Planning.
HMG came out on top after impressing the judges with the company’s engagement within the region and commitment to the community of Manchester, as well as its achievements in innovation.
At the forefront of HMG’s innovation is its key involvement in the PolyGraph Project, with the aim to incorporate Manchester-founded Graphene (an allotrope of carbon) into practical uses for Composite, Coating and Adhesive Applications.
Following the key learning points and development from the project, HMG has gone on to release a range of Graphene infused coatings into the market, predominantly for Commercial Vehicle and Automotive applications.
These specifically designed coatings are prolonging the usable life of vehicles and structures, reducing the environmental footprint of the manufacturing process.
"The whole team at HMG Paints is beaming with pride after winning Business of the Year against such tough competition. As we enter our 90thYear of Business, without moving from our humble roots in Manchester, we are really happy to be sharing the news of our achievement and dedicate it to our late Chairman Mr Brian Falder, who was laid to rest on HMG’s 89thAnniversary on the 4thOctober 2019,” said Gracienne Ikin, Digital Sales and Communications Manager, HMG Paints Ltd.
The awards evening recognised firms across an array of sectors including retail, manufacturing, technology, finance, fashion and construction.
Opening the evenings activities, Shelina Begum, M.E.N Business Editor, quoted "Congratulations to all our winners. Together they underpin a strong business community here in Manchester and the innovation taking place across a number of areas is keeping these companies at the forefront of what they do.
"We had a fantastic number of entries this year and judges spent months visiting each company and agreeing the shortlist.
"We say this every year – but the quality of entrants this time around has been truly exceptional. Arriving at the final shortlist was no easy task, let alone picking the winners.”
This win follows the recent success of HMG Paints Finance Director, Candice Brett, who was named Finance Director of the Year at the North West Finance Awards.
HMG Paints waits in anticipation for the results of the annual British Coatings Federation Awards, where the company has been shortlisted for three awards including the Corporate Social Responsibility Award, which they previously won in the inaugural year in 2017.
