Evonik has released three new products to the market, focused on creating optimum coatings for a range of applications:
EXP 8018-1: New finer grade matting agent will boost your coating formulation for future concepts
- Highly efficient matting effect
- Utmost transparency in clear coatings
- Super-fine surface haptics
Evonik introduces a new fine-grade matting agent from the ACEMATT® product group. EXP 8018-1 is a new wax-treated, precipitated silica matting agent in the portfolio of the Coating Additives business line. This finer grade matting agent was developed specially for applications where super-fine surface haptics combined with high transparency are targeted. The main application areas are high-performance waterborne and solventborne coatings for wood and plastic applications. The multi-purpose character of EXP 8018-1 enables its usability in various coating systems. It is suitable for both pigmented and clear formulations.
The finer-grade, wax-treated EXP 8018-1 was developed for anti-settling stability in clear coatings and supports high surface quality aspects.
It has excellent dispersibility behaviour and a very fine cut of grindometer value. Due to its easy dispersibility, customers do not require other high-shear equipment to incorporate the matting agent into the formulation. The silica must be stirred in with low-shear energy at the end of the manufacturing process, which can be achieved with a lab stirrer or dissolver. As a result, it is possible to use this product as a final addition (post-addition) to adjust the gloss level.
EXP 8018-1 belongs to Evonik’s product line of silica-based ACEMATT® matting agents.
Heat resistant and waterborne: New silicone resin for pots and pans
• Unique combination of properties: sustainable, high performance, easy to use
• Suitable for food contact
Colourful cookware is right on trend. Bright reds, deep blues and vibrant yellows – pots and pans are increasingly becoming a design feature rather than simply a functional tool. This gives a dual purpose to the external coating: It has to look good and withstand a fair amount of punishment.
Heat-resistant coatings for cookware and bakeware are certainly not new – but to date, they have been almost exclusively solventborne. Evonik’s Coating Additives business line is now launching a more environmentally friendly silicone resin, which has been specifically developed for waterborne coatings.
The new SILIKOFTAL® HTW 3 is a heat-resistant silicone resin that meets all the requirements of a sustainable formulation. It is free of organic solvents and features a significantly reduced VOC content from production to application.
SILIKOFTAL® HTW 3 is suitable for food contact as part of the external coating. By eliminating critical ingredients, the silicone resin is not classified as hazardous according to GHS.
The combination of properties – high performance, ease of handling, and suitability for food contact – makes this product unique on the market. Customers can enjoy greater freedom when formulating their coatings as SILIKOFTAL® HTW 3 can be combined with numerous pigments and can be used anywhere stoving coatings are used. This also includes, for example, toasters or other household appliances (electrical appliances). The working temperature resistance is 200°C. The high flashpoint of above 90°C offers corresponding benefits for storage and transport.
"In SILIKOFTAL® HTW 3 we offer a product that meets increasingly stringent regulations,” says Maximilian Morin, head of the industrial coatings market segment. "The extensive and vigorous development has paid off and is an excellent example of our efforts to continuously expand our portfolio and offer more sustainable products.”
VP 4200: New structure modified silica type for Anti-Fouling Coatings to reduce biocide content
- Less biocide is needed for the same performance
- More controlled release of biocide
- Easy incorporation and low thickening effect
Evonik introduces a new structure modified silica type from the AEROSIL® product group.
Germany, Essen. VP 4200 is a new structure modified silica type with free OH-groups that enables formulating more ecofriendly, cuprous oxide containing Anti-Fouling coatings.
It is tailor made for both CDP and SPC coatings. (CDP = Controlled Depletion Polymer ; SPC = Self-Polishing Coating).
VP 4200 forms a complex with Cu2O and is thus better able to control the release of the biocide.
Formulations with only 10 pbw% cuprous oxide and 4 -6 pbw% VP 4200 leads to the same performance as the standard type with up to 50 pbw% Cu2O.
VP 4200 has a relatively low thickening effect, so higher amounts can easily be incorporated into the systems, especially in combination with TEGO® Dispers 1010.
VP 4200 belongs to Evonik’s product line of silica-based AEROSIL® types.
