BASF recently invited 16 local children to become professional painters for a day at Mazda’s Nanjing Tianrui Bodyshop.
For the first time in China, R-M Kids’ Factory provided children with a fun, hands-on opportunity to try automotive painting, and learn about safe painting procedures and environmentally friendly R-M ONYX HD refinish coatings.
"BASF and Mazda share a common vision: to build a strong relationship with the local communities we work in and to provide coating solutions that minimise environmental impact,” said Sebastien Garnier, Director, Automotive Refinish Coatings, Greater China, BASF.
"Through the Kids’ Factory, we work together with our partners to educate the community about sustainable paint and safe procedures for the automotive industry.”
Together with professional painters from the Mazda team, the children used spray tools to apply individual designs on substrate panels.
They also learned how to match colours and how to handle painting equipment in the spray booth after receiving an introduction to the appropriate safety measures.
"It is a great opportunity for us to give back to our community by providing children with a hands-on, fun filled painting experience.
"This activity will help us show them how safe our products and processes are and the high-quality of service that we provide to our customers,” said Zhang Chi, General Manager of Nanjing Tiancai Automotive Accessories.
Beyond China, the R-M Kids’ Factory has been successful in Japan since 2010, helping customers to establish community activities and promote understanding of waterborne coatings solutions in the refinishing industry.
This year alone, approximately 250 children attended Kids’ Factory activities in Japan at local bodyshops and OEM related dealers’ sites.
One of BASF’s partners, Izushi Motors, which hosted the Kids’ Factory event at one of their bodyshops for the first time earlier this year, has since been recognised by the Izushi municipal government as an environmentally and socially responsible bodyshop.
