BASF showcased its high performance products and solutions for the wind industry at the recent China Wind Power exhibition, which was held in Beijing from October 19 to 21.
Rapid industrialisation, economic development and increasing environmental awareness are driving demand for wind power in China, making the country the world’s largest producer of wind turbines. With its broad product portfolio for tower, nacelle and blades, BASF is committed to helping its customers to achieve improved durability and greater production efficiency.
"Demand for renewable energy is continuing to grow in China. At BASF, we actively support the development of wind power as a climate-friendly source of energy. We are dedicated to being a reliable partner for the wind industry with our wide range of solutions and technology know-how,” said Kenneth Chan, Head of BASF’s Industry Team Wind in China.
Another exhibit at the booth was BASF’s Relest Wind Leading Edge.
The innovative coating system improves the efficiency of wind turbines by providing excellent protection for the front and leading edge of the rotor blade from erosion. Its enhanced formula exhibits an extremely high erosion resistance against rain, hail, snow, sand and UV radiation, thus contributing to the longevity against environment stresses and extending life span with decreased servicing frequency.
The Baxxodur® epoxy resin systems and Kerdyn® PET (polyethylene terephthalate) were also featured. Baxxodur epoxy resin systems reduce manufacturing lead time due to their excellent process ability for the vacuum infusion of rotor blades. Kerdyn PET structural foam is used inside rotor blades and is an ideal material to replace traditional PVC foam. It is characterised by its good temperature and chemical resistance, which gives downstream manufacturers freedom to develop blades with different lengths. It offers excellent mechanical properties enabling rotor blades to withstand static and constant dynamic loads.
Emgard Wind P high performance gear oil provides optimum protection for the gearbox in the nacelle. It protects gears against micro pitting even in tough conditions. Furthermore, it is temperature-stable, and improves operation by giving the drive train maximum protection.
