PPG has completed a Colorful Communities project that helped to revitalise the Notre Dame de Grâce primary school in Les Abymes, Guadeloupe. The project brought together more than 100 volunteers, including parents, teachers and 29 PPG employees, who spent a total of 600 hours painting the school’s interior and exterior.
PPG contributed more than US$47,000 for the project, including 212 gallons (800 litres) of SEIGNEURIE® paint by PPG. Company experts advised on the choice of colours for the project, which focused on a green palette to symbolise the “colours of love.” The volunteers also designed murals, as well as games including hopscotch and a labyrinth for the school’s play areas.
The Notre Dame de Grâce school has 472 students aged between 3 and 12. It was severely affected by Hurricane Fiona, which damaged several of its buildings when it struck Guadeloupe in September 2022.
“I would like to thank the PPG employees and the school community for their commitment to this project,” said Caroline Geoffroy, Director of the Notre Dame de Grâce school. “It provides a better visual environment for the pupils, and the new games allow them to have fun and at the same time to improve their motor skills. Well done to all the volunteers.”
“I am pleased to see our first Colorful Communities project completed in Guadeloupe,” said Yannick Le Brech, PPG Regional Manager, Caribbean, French Overseas, Architectural Coatings. “We beautified the school with our products and contributed to the murals on the theme of love and respect. We are proud to see PPG contributing to our community.”
The Colorful Communities programme, PPG’s signature initiative for supporting communities, aims to protect and beautify the neighbourhoods where PPG operates around the world. Through the Colorful Communities programme, PPG’s committed volunteers contribute their time and PPG paint products to help transform community assets – from painting classrooms to bringing colour to a maternity ward and redesigning a playground. Since 2015, PPG has completed more than 470 Colorful Communities projects, impacting more than 8.2 million people in 50 countries.
